Shakira competed as a track athlete, cheerleader and academic scholar growing up in Winston Salem, NC. During her psychology and chemistry studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, she found her first yoga class in 2007. Upon completing her B.A. in Psychology, a growing interest in holistic healing led to attending Body Therapy Institute in Siler City, NC to become a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist.
She then had the vision of helping others improve their wellness and completed a 230-hour Veda Vinyasa YTT at Heart of Yoga School in Carrboro, NC in 2015, Aerial Yoga Teacher Training in Chapel Hill in 2015, and a 200-Hour Skill In Action YTT in Winston-Salem, in 2019. These opportunities created the space to practice self-control, self-awareness, and embody social justice into her teachings. Her students describe her classes as fun, challenging, mindful and includes a lot of laughter.
Through this amazing journey of yoga and aerial art she hopes to extend her story of growth and love to create and invoke the daily practice of self-love, compassion and practical solutions to transform both inner and outer worlds.
